Discovering Giau
An alpine pasture in paradise
Malga Giau, located – going up from Cortina d’Ampezzo – 3 km from Passo Giau
is located in a pleasant clearing surrounded by larch and stone pine forests.
In the surroundings
It belongs to the General and Grand Rule of S. Vito di Cadore, being located in the municipality of the same name, separated from Cortina by the famous Giau Wall (Muraglia di Giau). The ruins of the Giau Wall, with numbered milestones, are still visible and can be ‘visited’ with a short walk along an easy path from the Malga Giau.
In the summer season, the meadows are fenced off for grazing cows, but it is always possible to enter and walk the paths leading to the Giau Pass, the Nuvolao hut or the 5 Torri hut.
With the arrival of snow, the forest is transformed into a magical place that can be explored, starting from the Malga Giau, with snowshoes to reach the Giau Wall and the slopes of the ‘Marogna’ beak, and then return with rewarding circular tours.
Starting from our car park, located on the main road, it is possible to ski mountaineering routes to Forcella Giau, Mondeval peak – Corvo Alto and other peaks around the Lastoni di Formin.
